The area

A visit to the Timespan heritage centre in Helmsdale is an absolute must, as is the Heritage Centre a few miles away in Brora. Fishing on the famous river Helmsdale is fantastic, and we can arrange your permit for you with prior warning. You could even try your hand at gold panning at the famous gold rush area Baille An Òr in the beautiful Strath of Kildonan. For the golfers why not test your skills on Helmsdale's challenging nine hole course, or even better book a round of golf at the famous links course in nearby Brora.

There are many distilleries in the area if you have a taste for a wee dram, and many of them have visitor centres that offer excellent tours. Coming from the South you will pass Glenmorangie at Tain, Clynelish in Brora, and Old Pultney to the north in Wick. If you are planning to visit Orkney then you will also be able to visit The Highland Park Distillery.

Further north there are the fabulous Whaligoe Steps, which are another absolute must for those of you who appreciate the natural beauty the area offers. Make sure you have your camera at the ready for this trip!

For the budding archeologists amongst you there are many places very close by that are excellent for this such as brochs, chambered cairns, and castles. Indeed the fairy tale Dunrobin Castle is only a few miles away in Golspie, and the Queen Mother's former summer residence, The Castle Of Mey, is approximately forty miles north

There are many lovely walks including hills, Corbetts, and even Munros. A drive through Glen Loth will give you chance to see Red Deer, Roe Deer, Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers and stunning views of the strath. If you're lucky then you may even catch a glimpse of one of our otters on the River Helmsdale.

With all the bird watching, mountain biking, loch fishing, sea fishing, hill walking, kayaking, surfing, and all manner of other pass times in the area you will probably want to come back again just to finish all the things you did not get chance to do the first time!

We have a rod box for those of you who enjoy fishing, a freezer to store your catch, and a secure garden area for your cycles. Car parking is in a quiet residential street.
